A few weeks ago, I ended up in this strange, terrible place.
On assignment, I tagged along with The Hawks — South Africa’s FBI. They had found this grocery with a freezer full of rotting animal parts — cats, cow heads, shanks, skins. In a locked room above a makeshift surgery, the owners had stockpiled stuffed-and-mounted animals — giraffe, baboon, crocodile, serval cat, nyala, kangarro rat.
Two hundred crocodiles went missing, too.
